Mariah Should Be in Tiger Movie

Posted in , , , , ,

Casting director Patrick Baca tells Us who should star in Tiger Woods: The Movie.

Tiger Woods - WILL SMITH
For the part of the disgraced golfer, caster Patrick Baca says a perfect match is tricky, but "Will Smith can do anything!"

Elin Woods - REESE WITHERSPOON
The actress, 33, who resembles Tiger's scorned wife, 30, "is likable, so the audience will sympathize with her," Baca explains.

Rachel Uchitel - JENNIFER ANISTON
Tiger's party-girl mistress "has a little edge to her as a New Yorker," Baca says. "Jennifer could get that edge down."

Jaimee Grubbs - MARIAH CAREY
For Tiger's on-off hookup, "Mariah reestablished herself as a great actress in Precious. It's creative casting," Baca notes.

Ask Billboard: Send Me An 'Angel' Response

Hi Gary,
I was wondering why Mariah Carey's latest album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," wasn't able to gain traction in the U.S. Several good singles have been released, including some great remixes, but only one barely cracked the top 10 on Adult Contemporary. What happened?

Ask Billboard's Gary Trust replies:
While her latest album may pale in comparison to some of her earlier sets that yielded multiple No. 1s on the Hot 100, Carey is still going strong two weeks after turning 40.
"Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," which has sold 470,000 copies to date, has actually produced a pair of top 10s. "Obsessed" peaked at No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs, Hot Dance Airplay and Hot Videoclips, No. 7 on the Hot 100 and No. 8 on Pop Songs. Her remake of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" reached No. 2 on Dance/Club Play Songs and No. 10 on Adult Contemporary.

And, "H.A.T.E.U.," "Angels Cry" and "Up Out My Face" followed those cuts onto R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

I agree that the album's single releases have been strong, especially the Seamus Haji and Paul Emanuel remix of "Obsessed" and the Donnie Hotwheel uptempo mix of "I Want to Know What Love Is."

(My favorite song on the album hasn't been released as a single, and is subtitled an "interlude," for that matter: the melodic "Languishing").

While radio hasn't been as open to Carey's recent singles as they were throughout the '90s, when she notched the first 14 of her 18 Hot 100 No. 1s, her 14-week No. 1 "We Belong Together" in 2005 proves that a monster radio comeback is always possible. On Pop Songs, that track began a run of five top 10s for Carey in the last five years after posting one between 1998 and 2004.

Remember, too, that current-driven radio formats, such as top 40 and R&B/hip-hop, often tend to favor younger artists, such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Ke$ha.

Thus, it's always a notable achievement when veteran performers continue to reach the top 10 at those formats. In addition to Carey, Monica, 15 years after her first chart appearance, sits atop R&B/Hip-Hop Songs this week with "Everything to Me" and Mary J. Blige ranks at No. 9 on the list with "I Am," her 22nd top 10 dating to her first 18 years ago.

Mariah's "I Want To Know What Love Is" tops the official Brazilian Airplay chart for 24 consecutive weeks. Mariah's cover of the Foreigner classic has the distinction of being the longest chart-topper in the history of the Crowley Broadcast Analysis.

The song has been at #1 since October 2009 and is the biggest hit of 2010 so far in Brazil after having spent 30 weeks in the Top 100 Brazil (international and domestic repertoire). Congratulations MC!

Why do mosquitoes hum in your ear?

Posted in

IN the early times in Bohol, there was a king of the crabs called Mangla. One night, very tired and sleepy, Mangla ordered his old sheriff, Cagang, to call all his frog followers. The sheriff brought them together in a short time.

Mangla said to the frogs, “Watch my house while I sleep but do not make any noise that will wake me up.” The frogs said, “We are always ready to serve you.” So the king of crabs went to sleep.

When Mangla began to snore, it rained hard and the frog guards could not help laughing. The king woke up, very angry. But he was still tired and sleepy, and did not immediately ask the frogs why they laughed. He waited until morning.

As soon as the sun shone, Mangla called the frogs and asked, “Why did you laugh last night? Did I not tell you not to disturb me?”

The frogs answered, “We could not help laughing because we saw our old friend, the snail, carrying his house on his back.”

The king understood and pardoned the frogs. Then he told his sheriff to summon the snail.

In a short time, the snail came. The king asked, “What did you do last night to make the frogs laugh?”

“Sir,” replied the snail, “I was carrying my house. Because, sir, the firefly was carrying fire. I was afraid my only dwelling would be burned.”

The answer seemed reasonable to the king, so he pardoned the snail. Then he told Cagang, his sheriff, to summon the firefly.

The firefly appeared before the king, whose eyes were now flashing with anger, and he said to the culprit, “Why were you carrying fire last night?”

The firefly was very frightened. In a trembling voice he said, “The mosquito is forever trying to bite me. To protect myself I have to carry fire all the time.”

The king thought the firefly had a good enough reason, so he pardoned the firefly, too.

The king now realized that there was trouble brewing in his kingdom. He would not have been aware of it if he had not been awakened by the laughter of the frogs.

He sent his sheriff to get the mosquito. In a short time, Cagang appeared with the mosquito. Expecting trouble, the mosquito, had told all his companions to follow. Before the mosquito had even reached the palace, the king was already shouting with rage. So the mosquito bit the king’s face.

Mangla screamed, “So it is true, what I heard from the frogs, the snails and the firefly! You bite! The king ordered his sheriff to put the mosquito to death. But, before Cagang could do so, the companions of the mosquito appeared. Cagang finally killed the mosquito and then scurried home. The mosquito’s friends chased him, bent on avenging the murder.

Cagang’s house, however, was deep under the ground, and the mosquito’s friends could not get in. But they still remained humming at the door.

Even today, at the doors of the houses of Cagang and his followers we can see the dead mosquito’s friends humming and trying to get in. Often mosquitoes mistake the holes of our ears for Cagang’s house and that is the reason mosquitoes hum in our ears.

Introspection on Good Friday

Posted in , ,

Today's the only day in the year that we are supposed to be reflecting back on what we have done, what we can do and how can we do more good things - big time.

Although, arguably, we can always sit back and meditate in any day of the year. For me, Good Friday is the best day there is.

The air outside is so quite, the birds stops or avoids chirping, the people are kind, everything is on standstill. The weather is always fine on Good Friday, well, at least here in the Philippines, or to the place where I'm at during this time. The mood is engaging. God's love overflowing.

However busy we may become on this day, at least, I try to eliminate the minor things. I'll just go and grapple whatever non-negotiables I have for Good Friday... prayer - in song, in spirit, or maybe having your heart scream your love for God.

Whenever I spoke of God, my heart melts, my eyes well, my mind stops. God is so good to me and to whatever He shows me. I sometimes or always falter to appreciate Him but I'm happy that whenever I go back to Him (a lot of times), He never tires to take me back in His Loving Arms.

So today is for Him... maybe not alone this year because I'm semi-working... but my heart belongs to God today... I'm trying...
